The Solitude of Thinking: A Villanelle

Interlocutor: “What are you going to do living all by yourself in a pandemic?”
Me: “Think about things.”
Interlocutor: “You’ve had your whole life to think about things.”

-----

My thinking does not always get things right.
And more, it does not mean I will do things.
My best lies in doing the things in sight.

I doubt I could think my way out of fright.
Nor could I find the joy that thinking brings.
My thinking does not always get things right.

Sometimes I find I think long through the night.
The quiet in my ears just sings and rings.
My best lies in doing the things in sight.

Do you wonder why I want to take flight?
I wish to throw my thoughts with a strong fling.
My thinking does not always get things right.

One thing I can see from the highest height
Regardless if I have the voice to sing--
My best lies in doing the things in sight.

I want to act my way to feeling right,
From feeling right, my thinking changes things.
My thinking does not always get things right.
My best lies in doing the things in sight.
